Profile

Zambales is located at the western side of Central Luzon. It is bounded on the north by Pangasinan, on the east by Tarlac and Pampanga, on the south by Bataan, and on the west by Luzon Sea. Terrain is mountainous with narrow coastal plains. Highest elevation is the 2,037-meter High Peak followed by the 1,604-meter Mt. Iba, both located east of the capital town of Iba. Climate is characterized by two pronounced seasons: dry from November to April and wet during the rest of the year.

The province is home to Hanjin Shipbuilding Plant - one of the largest foreign investments in the country. Subic freeport zone is the site of many export companies such as Acer Computer Company. The freeport is hoped to become a major gateway of Philippine foreign trade and a transhipment point in Asia. Mining is a major source of income. The province is endowed with mineral reserves of chromite, gold, and silver. Tourism is another source of livelihood. There were 58 banks in the province with total deposits of 18.8 billion pesos in 2007.
