Surigao Del Sur is a province of the Philippines located in Caraga Region which is found the northeastern part of Mindanao Island. It is bounded on the north
by Surigao del Norte, on the east by the Philippine Sea, on the south by Davao Oriental,
and on the west by Agusan Del Norte and Agusan Del Sur. Terrain is mostly hilly and mountainous in the northern part of the province with scattered river
valleys and coastal plains. The southern portion is mostly plain with scattered hills. The province has no dry season with
very pronounced maximum rainfall from November to January.

Economic Profile, Products, and Industries
Farming and fishing are the main economic activities in the province. Agricultural production in 2007

The province is home to the largest pulp and paper company in the country. In 2007, there were 25
banks operating in the province with total deposits of 2.4 billion pesos.
Poverty incidence stood at 55.1%, very high compared to the national aferage of 32.9%.

Surigao del Sur offers many opportunities for entrepreneurs. It has forests that can be the source of raw materials for industries such as
furniture and other forest-based industries. It has rivers that can be tapped for power generation and irrigation. It has many tourist attractions
which can be the reasons for putting up tourist facilities. Its agricultural lands can be developed and modernized by establishing
post harvest facilities.
