The city of Sorsogon is located at the northeastern part of Sorsogon Province in the southern tip of Luzon Island, around 600 kilometers away from Manila. The city center is situated on the coast along Sorsogon Bay where its port is located. The northern part of the city is bounded by Albay Province and Albay Gulf. Neighboring towns include Prieto Diaz in the east, Gubat in the southeast, Castilla in the west, and Manito town of Albay Province in the north. Most of the city's land area of 338 square kilometer are considered rural which are either forested or devoted to agriculture. The northern part of the city's terrain is mostly mountainous and hilly while the southern part is flat.

Bicolano is the primary tongue of the people. However Tagalog and English are widely used while a few migrants speak Waray and Cebuano. Majority of the population belong to the Roman Catholic Religion. Others belong to the Iglesia Ni Cristo, Jehovah Witnesses, Evangelical, or Islam religion.

Wholesale anf retail are the most important economic activities in the city center while farming and fishing are the main source of income for those living in the outlying barangays. Main agricultural products include rice, coconut, abaca, pili nuts, rootcrops and vegetables. Its marine industry produces fish, prawn, and seaweed. Within Bacon district are some wells drilled to produce steam for geothermal plant in Manito, Albay. Cottage industries produce processed pili nuts, vinegar and soysauce, handicrafts, and metalworks.

Most of the city's establishments are concentrated on three major thoroughfares namely: Rizal St., Magsaysay St., and Flores St. Diversion Road which is located in the outer part of the city center is slowly attracting residents and commercial buildings. Notable establishments in the city include Robertson's Department Store along Rizal Avenue, Fernando Mall near Hall of Justice, GSIS along Flores St. Sts. Peter and Paul Hospital also on Flores St., Sorsogon Pilot Elementary school along J. S. Reyes St., and the Public Market along Magsaysay St. Places to unwind include Bonanza Sports Bar and Dino Mark Bowling Lane.

Business Opportunities

As the main economic center of the province with a sizable number of residents, the city of Sorsogon has enough potential to attract investment. It has raw materials needed by different industries. The following list are some examples of businesses that can be put up in the city:
