Biography of Sergio Osmena
-> The 4th president (1944 - 1946) of the Philippines
-> Born on September 9, 1878 in Cebu City
-> His mother Juana Osmena was reportedly only 14 years when she gave birth to him
-> The identity of his father was a closely guarded secret
-> Founded the newspaper 'El Nuevo Dia' in 1900
-> Served on the war staff of General Emilio Aguinaldo as a courier and journalist
-> Took up Law at UST and passed the Bar in 1903 landing 2nd place
-> At age 28, elected as Governor of Cebu
-> Gave up the governorship to run for the first National Assembly and won
-> Became House Speaker from 1917 to 1922
-> Elected Senator in 1922 and served as such until 1935
-> Elected as Vice-President with partymate Manuel Quezon as President
-> Succeeded Manuel Quezon as President upon the latter's death in 1944
-> Run for President in the 1946 National Election but lost to Manuel Roxas
-> Died of liver failure and breast cancer on October 19, 1961 in Quezon City
