Biography of Ramon Magsaysay
-> The 7th president (1953 - 1957) of the Philippines
-> Considered as one of the Most popular presidents
-> Born on August 31, 1907 in Iba, Zambales
-> Parents are Exequiel Magsaysay, a blacksmith, and Perfecta del Fierro, a schoolteacher
-> Married to Luz Banzon and had three children: Teresita, Milagros, and Ramon Jr.
-> Studied engineering briefly at UP but finished commerce at Jose Rizal College
-> Work as a mechanic asnd became a shop superintendent
-> Commissioned as captain during World War II and fought the Japanese as a guerilla fighter
-> Elected Congressman for Zambales for two terms (1946 to 1950)
-> Appointed as Secretary of National Defense in 1950
-> 1953 - Run for President under the Nacionalista Party and won
-> Sworn into office wearing the Barong Tagalog, a first by a Philippine president
-> Opened Malacañáng Palace to the masses, making it literally a "house of the people"
-> 1954 - Signed the Manila Pact or Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO)
-> Died on March 17, 1957 due to airplane crash in Mt. Manunggal in Cebu
-> An estimated 5 milion people attended his funeral
