Profile

Mountain Province is centrally located in the Cordillera mountain range. It is bounded on the north by Kalinga, on the east by Isabela, on the south by Ifugao and Benguet, and on the west by Ilocos Sur. Its terrain is dominated by high mountains. Climate is characterized by having no pronounced seasons. The months of November to April are relative dry and the rest of the year is wet.

Poverty incidence is very high. In 2006, it stood at 50.4% as against the national average of 32.9%. There were 8 banks in the province with total deposits of 1.2 biilion pesos.

Business Opportunities

The production of export quality organic foods is highly recommended. The production of the Kalinga coffee should be expanded in order to meet volume for export. The production and canning of mushroom as well as furniture and wooden articles manufacturing are encouraged. Modernized weaving factories can thrive in the province.
