-> The 8th president (1957 - 1961) of the Philippines -> Born on November 4, 1896 in Talibon, Bohol -> Parents are Policronio García and Ambrosia Polestico, both from Bangued, Abra -> Father is town mayor for 4 terms -> Married to Leonila Dimataga -> Studied at Silliman University but finished Law from Philippine Law School -> Worked as a high schoo teacher and became famous as a poet -> Elected Congressman for two terms - 1925 and 1928 -> Elected as Governor in 1933 -> Elected as Senator in 1941 -> Chosen as the running-mate of Ramon Magsaysay and won as Vice-President in 1953 -> Appointed by President Magsaysay as Foreign Affairs Secretary -> Succeeded Magsaysay as President in 1957 when the latter died in an airplane crash -> Won as President in 1957 National Election -> Adopted the 'First Filipino Policy', outlawed Communism, and instituted austerity programs -> Became President of the 1971 Constitutional Convention -> Died of heart attack on June 14, 1971 in Tagbilaran City, Bohol
