Bago City is located 21 kilometers south of Bacolod City, the provincial capital of Negros Occidental. Its neighbors include Murcia on the north, San Carlos City on the east, and La Carlota City and Pulupandan Town on the South. To the west of the city is the island province Guimaras across Guimaras Strait. The City sits on the mouth of the Bago River.

Bago City has a total land area of 401.2 square kilometers and is politically subdivided into 24 barangays.

The city offers good potential as an investment hub. Situated amidst vast agricultural lands, the ccity can be the home of food processing plants and other light industrial projects such as furniture, organic textile and clothing, herbal medicines, jewelry, and fabricated metals. The production of novelty items and consumer goods can also thrve in the city. Its agricultural; lands can be devoted to mariculture, commercial hog and poultry raising, cattle fattening, and the production of high value crops such as mushroom and other vegetables.
