Alcala is a 3rd class municipality located in the heart of Cagayan Province along the shore of the mighty Cagayan River.
It is bounded on the north by Gattaran, on the east by Baggao, on the south by Amulung, and on the west by Santo Nino.
It has a total land area of 187 square kilometers and is politically subdivided into 25 barangays.
The town is situated 530 kilometers north of Manila and 38 kilometers north of Tuguegarao City, the provincial capital.
